Opinel Knives
Opinel knives
In the year 1890 Joseph Opinel from Albiez-le-Vieuz in France made a small spring assisted knife Opinel, which was functional, storable and cheap at the same time. Originally, he made this knife for his friends, it didn’t occur to him at the time, that he has created a timeless design, which will survive two world wars, economic crises and will enter the digital world with such a noblest, as was the case in the first introduction.
The blade is manufactured from carbon or stainless steel Sandvic 12C27, which can be very easily distinguished by different inscriptions. The knives with carbon steel have a black inscription Carbone, and knives with stainless steel have the inscription Inox on the blade. The Opinel knives with carbon handle are distinguished by a permanent sharpness. The wood handle is made from a beech massive on which a colourless varnish is applied, thus securing endurance and resistance of the natural material. In special editions, the Opinel knives can have the handle made from palisander, olive wood, ivory or be in a limited metal execution. Since the year 1955 the Opinel knives use the Viroblock safety-lock patented by Opinel, which prevents involuntary opening and closing of the knife.
